CHORDS OF PEACE marks the opening moment of the International Museum Day celebrations at Museums and Monuments of Portugal. On this day, 26 concerts take place simultaneously, involving 35 choral groups performing in museums, monuments and palaces from north to south of the country.
The initiative combines a shared national musical programme with local artistic proposals, affirming music as a universal language and museums as spaces of encounter, dialogue and participation.
The Fortaleza de Sagres joins this commemorative day with a concert by the Grupo Coral de Lagos conducted by Vera Batista, on 17 May at 4:00 pm.
Singing at the Fortress of Sagres — a place of open horizons, collective memory and a symbol of encounters between worlds — gives this moment a special resonance. On the Sagres Promontory, where history, heritage and landscape merge, music echoes as a bridge between times, cultures and people.
The programme brings together significant works of Portuguese and international music, opening with Acordai by Fernando Lopes‑Graça and culminating with Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, in a symbolic gesture of hope and communion.
