MU.SA - Museu das Artes de Sintra

Sintra · Lisboa

Housed in the former Sintra Casino, designed by the architect Norte Júnior and opened in 1924, MU.SA – the Sintra Museum of Art – is an inspiring and inclusive museum, where the collection on display takes visitors on a journey through contemporary art, with a particular focus on the important collection of works depicting Sintra.
The Museum organises temporary exhibitions by national and international artists, promoting creativity, experimentation and new artistic practices. It has a Cultural Mediation Service which develops specific initiatives aimed at diverse audiences, seeking to encourage new dynamics and participation.

In addition to hosting temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, the Museum has two permanent exhibition spaces: the Dorita de Castel-Branco Room, which houses an exhibition of works donated to the municipality by the artist, and the Pedro Cabrita Reis Space, where the site-specific work ‘Uma Nuvem Negra’ resides and interacts with the building and other works on display.

MU.SA offers a cultural mediation service and houses the Municipal Bookshop.

“Art That Brings Us Together at MU.SA”

For 2026, ICOM defined the theme “Museums Uniting a Divided World” as the guiding framework for the celebrations. This theme reinforces the mission of museums as spaces for dialogue and inclusion, where diverse stories meet and are valued. In a world marked by differences and global challenges, museums have the power to inspire empathy, promote knowledge, and build connections that transcend borders, contributing to a more united, aware, and supportive society.

MU.SA – Sintra Museum of the Arts joins the celebrations of International Museum Day and the European Night of Museums by offering a rich, varied, inclusive, and free programme.
